Faith

This week at home groups we talked about faith. We saw that faith is all around us all the time: we believe by faith that people walked on the moon, that George Washington existed, and that trying to tickle a great white shark will probably get you eaten.

These things also show us that faith isn’t completely blind. We have faith in those three things for good reasons. Our faith is built on a foundation. The same is true of our faith in God. That foundation is made up of many things, but we pointed out four in particular:

  1. Lots of history.
  2. Lots of proof.
  3. Lots of other people’s experiences.
  4. Lots of your own experiences.

If you want to examine your own faith, this list is a great place to begin. Making sure you have a firm foundation for your faith will make your faith stronger. Strong enough to stand up against doubts. Strong enough for your faith to grow.

Try doing a Lectio Divina on Hebrews 11:1 this week. See what God teaches you!

Ideas for this lesson were inspired by the book “My Faith” by Kurt Johnston and Mark Oestreicher. This book is highly recommended.
